Össur has launched Pro-Flex LP Junior, a pediatric prosthetic foot that offers flexibility and energy return to promote balanced movement in active children.

The company’s engineering team worked with pediatric O&P specialists and their patients to design a prosthetic foot that had the dynamics and performance usually seen in an adult prosthesis, with the flexibility and stiffness to accommodate the demands placed by a child user.

The team was inspired to build the new pediatric prosthesis after several young elementary school children wrote to the company asking them to create a new prosthetic foot for one of their classmates who had limb difference.

“Kids don’t just walk—they run, jump, climb and explore with boundless energy. That’s why our line of junior dynamic foot solutions was designed to keep up with their every step, leap and splash,” said Jon Salyer, vice president, Chronic Solutions Americas for Össur. “With the introduction of the Pro-Flex LP Junior, we are bringing our proven Pro-Flex technology to our youngest users. Whether a child is spending a day at the pool, hiking through the woods or playing a game of tag on the playground, the Pro-Flex LP Junior allows them to move freely and confidently and live a life without limitations.”

Pro-Flex LP Junior features Össur’s three-blade technology, which allows a smooth, natural gait combined with comfort and control. Its low-profile fiberglass design offers mechanical power and range of ankle motion to reduce stress on its user’s sound size. Reverse tapered technology mimics natural ankle motion and a special heel bumper absorbs high-impact shock.

A split toe and multi-axial format makes it adaptable to uneven terrain. Pro-Flex LP Junior also boasts a removable, snap-on waterproof cover and a treaded sole for better grip. A sandal-clamping toe lets users bathe while wearing it, or participate in water activities.

“We developed the new Pro-Flex LP Junior so that little feet could experience big adventures. Every child deserves the chance to explore, follow their curiosity, and throw themselves into life without reservations. Whether they are climbing trees or chasing their dreams, the Pro-Flex LP Junior can keep up with every sprint, jump and unexpected turn they take,” Salyer said.
