The North American Spine Society (NASS) featured the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, biologics, and digital health at its 40th Annual Meeting this past weekend in Denver. Sessions throughout the event explored the ways in which technology continues to reshape clinical practice, research and spine care innovation.

Highlights included:

  • Technology and Challenges in Spine Care: Presented by the Section on Innovative Spine Research and Novel Technologies, this symposium examined the full pathway from concept to clinical adoption. Speakers discussed progress and persistent challenges in biomechanics, endoscopy, robotics, and disc regeneration, as well as the evolving landscape for clinical trials and device development.
  • Intervertebral Disc Therapies: VooDoo or the Future?: This session reviewed the expanding field of minimally invasive disc therapeutics, from established injections and ablation techniques to emerging biologics, stem cell therapies, and disease-modifying pharmaceuticals.
  • Interdisciplinary Spine Forum: Outsmarting Traditional Methods — Innovative Models Transforming Spine Care: Panelists discussed the ways in which technology-enabled, guideline-concordant care systems can improve outcomes, reduce fragmentation, and increase value across the spine care continuum.

Additional abstract sessions featured translational research in biologics, image-based diagnostics, and AI-assisted decision-making. Topics included nanoparticle-enhanced therapeutics for disc degeneration, biomechanical implant modeling, and machine learning algorithms for early identification of surgical candidates.

NASS’s Annual Meeting brings together thousands of clinicians, researchers and industry leaders each year to share evidence, exchange ideas, and advance multidisciplinary spine care.

NASS is a global multidisciplinary medical organization dedicated to fostering the highest quality, ethical, evidence- and value-based spine care by promoting education, research, and advocacy. NASS membership is comprised of spine professionals from several disciplines, including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, physiatry, radiology, anesthesiology, research and physical therapy.
