HealthpointCapital, a leading private equity firm focused exclusively on musculoskeletal healthcare, has acquired a majority stake in SteriCUBE Holdings, Inc. Along with this transaction, HelathpointCapital has appointed Chris Whitmore as the new CEO of SteriCUBE. Details were not disclosed. 
 
The SteriCUBE Multiple Tray Sterilization (MTS) System is a patented, environmentally friendly technology for simultaneous sterilization of instrument-holding trays. The SteriCUBE system uses a single, filtered metal container to store all trays for a surgical case, allowing for simultaneous sterilization. These trays are utilized to organize and protect the multiple instruments required in common orthopaedic and cardiac surgeries.
 
Hospitals have wrapped sterilized instrument trays with single-use polypropylene and paper material, commonly known as “blue wrap” for over 75 years to maintain a barrier from the outside air. Trays are hand-wrapped with two layers, generally utilizing 18 to 32 square feet of material, and are often susceptible to perforations that make enchased instruments unsterile. 
 
This system eliminates the use of blue wrap, reducing bio-hazardous waste, lowering costs, negating perforation concerns, and improving workflow efficiency of the daily sterilization process in hospitals.

SteriCUBE technology is covered by over 20 US and international patients, with additional patent applications pending. The system is FDA-cleared in the U.S. for both on-site and off-site sterilization, including transport, making it suitable for Ambulatory Surgical Centers lacking on-site sterilizers.
 
Whitmore has over 20 years in general management, business transformation, sales and marketing, and service operations. He held roles in Stryker’s Communications, Global Services, and ProCare divisions.
