Driving Force revealed it has acquired the Vertebral Motion Analysis (VMA) technology from Wenzel Spine.

The deal makes Driving Force VMA the sole owner and operator of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared motion imaging system for diagnosing spinal ligament injuries. The system uses dynamic fluoroscopy and proprietary software to generate objective, quantifiable, accurate, consistent, and reliable (med-legal) evidence of spinal instability injuries often missed by standard MRI and X-ray.

Driving Force hopes the Vertebral Motion Analysis technology will transform care for patients suffering from chronic spinal pain, personal injury cases, workers’ compensation claims, and sports-related injuries. The company said it plans to create a national network of imaging centers and strategic provider partnerships, which includes exclusive regional rights to medical groups who adopt the tech.

The company also said the acquisition will ensure continued development of the VMA platform, training, and backend reporting infrastructure. That way it can maintain the rigorous standards set by its surgical and radiological origins.

“Acquiring the VMA technology allows us to take control of its future, accelerate innovation, and expand access to providers and patients nationwide,” said Walter Bergeron and Sam Frentzas, Founders of Driving Force. “We believe the VMA will become the gold standard for diagnosing spinal ligament injuries, giving providers a competitive edge, improving patient outcomes, and increasing case value in the legal and insurance arenas.”

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“The transition from Wenzel Spine to Driving Force is an exciting new chapter,” said William Wilson, CEO of Wenzel Spine, “We’re confident the technology will reach its full potential under Driving Force’s vision and leadership.”
