Zimmer Biomet and PatientIQ, a company powering smarter care through EHR-integrated patient-reported outcomes data, began a strategic collaboration to integrate intra-operative data, pre- and post-operative mobility data and patient-reported outcomes with direct accessibility in electronic health records (EHR).

The agreement will grow access to Zimmer Biomet’s mymobility Care Management and ZBEdge Analytics platforms across PatientIQ’s provider network of over 750 health systems. This comprises over 6,500 orthopedic surgeons, 10,000 sites of care, and supports more than 13 million patients in the U.S.

Providers will be able to activate Zimmer Biomet’s digital health tech within PatientIQ’s EHR-integrated tech. Patients will be automatically enrolled into mymobility without extra steps from the practice, and providers can access mymobility data in the EHR through PatientIQ’s SMART on FHIR integration capabilities to offer surgeons and care teams access to critical data without switching applications.

“Our mission goes beyond simply measuring patient outcomes,” said Matt Gitelis, founder and CEO of PatientIQ. “We are focused on delivering solutions across our platform that help improve patient outcomes while seamlessly integrating into provider workflows. Zimmer Biomet’s technology not only drives meaningful clinical impact, but also enhances the patient experience and unlocks insights that advance orthopedic care forward.”

mymobility guides patients through their orthopedic journey from surgery prep through recovery with personalized education, exercise plans, and progress tracking. Through its app on iPhone and Android smartphones, mymobility provides continuous insights into patient activity and adherence to the care plan.

“Our goal is to empower surgeons and care teams with the tools, data and insights needed to deliver personalized, high-quality care,” said Robert Kraal, VP and GM of Connected Health at Zimmer Biomet. “Through this partnership with PatientIQ, we are further advancing our differentiated connected care ecosystem, which links devices, data and digital tools across the patient journey to help improve recovery and outcomes.”

The ZBEdge connected ecosystem collects objective data before, during, and after surgery and can deliver actionable insights to make informed care decisions and personalize the experience. Insights are accessible to providers on the ZBEdge Analytics care platform. When it’s layered with PatientIQ’s longitudinal outcomes data, the combined dataset creates a comprehensive view of recovery.

In November, the company announced it earned U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for an enhanced version of its ROSA Knee System that offers surgeons a more customized experience to help provide more accurate and reproducible outcomes in robotic-assisted total knee replacement surgery.
