Business transactions, an FDA nod, and an Orthopedic Innovators Q&A were what readers were most interested in this past week. 

Zimmer Biomet agreed to buy all outstanding shares of Paragon 28’s common stock. This transaction will strengthen and expand Zimmer Biomet’s foot and ankle offerings and allow Zimmer Biomet to quickly enter the ASC (Ambulatory Surgical Center) space.

Advanced Orthopaedics was acquired by Aspen Medical Products, this enhances Aspen’s global reach with a comprehensive portfolio and customer-centric solutions. Also, Stryker entered an agreement to sell its U.S. spinal implants business to family-owned investment firm, Viscogliosi Brothers.

Stryker also announced that its Chief Financial Officer, Glenn S. Boehnlein, has announced that he will retire after a 22-year career at the company. Preston Wells, who is currently group CFO of Stryker’s Orthopaedics Group, will become VP and CFO on April 1.

The FDA has granted OrthoPreserve with both Breakthrough Device Designation and Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program (TAP) enrollment for its Defender meniscus replacement implant. This implant aims to address the treatment gap that exists because of the poor outcomes of partial meniscectomy.
