Better patient care was the impetus behind ODT’s website traffic this past week.

Stryker was at the forefront of that traffic with the launch of its Citrefix suture anchor system for foot and ankle procedures. The new system utilizes Citregen, a bioresorbable material designed to mimic native bone’s chemistry and structure. The Citrefix disposable suture anchor system features a resorbable, biomimetic anchor body. Citregen elastomeric material is made from a citrate polymer designed to mimic bone chemistry for controlled resorption without chronic inflammation.

Next in line was an online exclusive about current trends and challenges in orthopedic product sterilization. Millstone Medical Outsourcing General Manager Tom Williams discussed the importance of product materials and properties when determining an appropriate sterilization method, noting “…gamma cannot be used on products with electronic components, so these must be sterilized with hydrogen peroxide or EtO. Moreover, it’s not just how materials are affected at the time of sterilization, but also how they behave post-sterilization: plastics or polymers can become brittle and degrade over time if sterilized with gamma, or cross-linking can occur. For package design, a key consideration is whether the sterile barrier is porous or non-porous, and/or if there is an oxygen content requirement.”

Osso VR gained pageviews for publicizing research supporting the benefits of its virtual reality surgical training, while AAOS reciprocated with the introduction of its Fracture & Trauma Registry. Finally, IncludeHealth attracted cybervisitors to the site with news of its partnership with with Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) to transform care for patients with musculoskeletal health conditions. The partnership aims to deliver a best-in-class hybrid MSK care model that combines Yale New Haven Health’s in-person orthopedic services with IncludeHealth’s Musculoskeletal Operating System (MSK-OS) to deliver virtual physical therapy in patients’ homes.
